Event description

Description

Doors open at 7.15 for refreshments and talk starts at 7.30-8.30. There is time after for chatting and sharing information. Session ends at 9pm.

Dr Peter Neil (CPsychol, PsychD) Highly Specialist Counselling Psychologist says: I am a recent convert to Psychology (and all of the therapies that Psychology develops and provides) having undertaken my training in my forties - following a career in television. I currently work with a team in ‘early intervention’ for people that are at risk of, or are experiencing significant mental health difficulties.

One of the ‘skills’ that I provide to all of my clients are the basic tools to effectively reduce anxiety (worry, panic, nervousness, fear). For most of us (me included) we are prone to strategies of ‘thinking’ our way out of our concerns. But evidence tells us that this is the least effective strategy and the one most likely to lead (potentially) to mental health difficulties. We can all change how we manage stress and worry but first we need to know WHY another approach would be better, and HOW to do it differently. It is surprisingly simple but powerful ‘first aid’ for mental and physical health and well-being.

How to get there:

The venue is 10 minutes walk from the stations at Dorking, Dorking Deepdene and Dorking West. All buses serving Dorking town centre stop at The White Horse on Dorking High Street which is 3 minutes walk from the venue. There is limited free parking at the venue or the pay and display parking at St Martins Walk is adjacent at a cost of £1 per hour
