About this event
Speaker
Douglas Hubbard
Synopsis
This presentation critiques how many existing risk management systems are fundamentally flawed, exposing organisations to greater risks.
It explores the critical problems with popular methods, explains how simple quantitative tools (such as spreadsheet-based analyses) and proper statistical techniques - even with limited data - can immediately improve outcomes.
The goal is to enable participants to see where their own risk-management practices fall short and how to fix them using more reliable, data-driven approaches.
About the speaker
Douglas Hubbard is the inventor of the Applied Information Economics (AIE) method and founder of Hubbard Decision Research (HDR).
He is best known as the author of several influential works, including, How to Measure Anything: Finding the Value of Intangibles in Business; The Failure of Risk Management: Why It’s Broken and How to Fix It; Pulse: The New Science of Harnessing Internet Buzz to Track Threats and Opportunities; and, most recently, How to Measure Anything in Cybersecurity Risk (2nd edition).
His books have sold over 200,000 copies worldwide in eight languages, with three of them included as required reading for Society of Actuaries exam preparation.
Beyond his books, Douglas has contributed to leading periodicals such as Nature, The IBM Journal of Research and Development, OR/MS Today, Analytics, CIO, Information Week, and Architecture Boston.
Over the course of a 36-year consulting career, Douglas has applied AIE to more than 200 risk/return analyses of major projects, investments, and management decisions across diverse industries, including insurance, financial services, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, utilities, energy, federal and state government, entertainment, media, military logistics, and manufacturing.
At its core, AIE represents the practical application of advanced quantitative methods - including Bayesian analysis, Monte Carlo simulations, and other proven techniques - to solve pressing business problems. The methodology has earned critical recognition from Gartner and Forrester Research.
Douglas is also a sought-after speaker at global conferences on valuation, risk, metrics, and decision analysis, where his work continues to influence both practitioners and thought leaders in risk management and decision science.
