About this event

Holes in your clothes? Button fallen off? Tear in a favourite shirt? Things lying about waiting for that mend? Here's your opportunity to fix them in this hands on session.

Volunteer stitchers and menders from the Everyone Needs Pockets Textile Reuse Network can help work out what needs doing and how to fix it, supporting you to mend your own clothes.

What we can help with:

  • Buttons and fasteners
  • Taking up hems and some fitting adjustments
  • Mending and darning holes
  • Advice on how you might repair a piece of clothing, including zips.

Come and enjoy a relaxed social atmosphere of mending your clothes.

These sessions are designed for all abilities and many different kind of repairs. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult throughout the session.

Please answer the questions as you book in, so we know how best to help you!

This session takes place in one of the meeting rooms in Frome Town Hall and is fully accessible.

This session is part of Fashion Reclaimed - Make and Mend Day

Join us for a day of reclaiming our clothes and fabrics in Frome through repair, reuse, remaking and refashioning as part of Sustainable Fashion Week hosted by Everyone Needs Pockets. We are the Frome Hub for SFW 2025.

An event for all ages with drop in activities and bookable workshops.

This is a family friendly event, and we welcome participating children accompanied by a responsible adult / parent. Frome Town Hall is fully accessible (via a lift) for wheeled users.

Please book your free tickets to come either in the morning or the afternoon.

Morning session: 10.30am to 12.30pm

Afternoon session: 1.30pm to 3.30pm

Rope making with Sanne Visser Studio

Make a beautiful rope using scrap fabric on an amazing portable rope maker 2.0 with artist and designer Sanne Visser.

Community weaving on the giant loom

The joy of weaving with your hands. Get stuck in to ripping up scraps of fabric from the waste mountain, and add your bit to the collective work and watch the loom come to life.

Clothes repair and upcycling help desk

Clothes repair is as much about planning and inspiration as it is the practical work. Have a chat, get other menders' thoughts and advice. Join a bookable workshop (see below) if you want a practical session too.

Oh darn it! - Have a go at darning a sock

Dig in to the basket of socks and have a go at darning with a step by step guide. Kids can have a go too, but must be supervised by a responsible adult (due to needles).

A haberdashery, fabric and (textile related) book sale - donations go to support the work we do at Everyone Needs Pockets and at our future events. We'll be accepting both cash and card on the day!

A tea / coffee / cake space for socialising

Inspiring displays and information about reclaiming fashion, and what we can do in Frome.

Come along and connect with others to take action on reclaiming your clothes and textiles - reduce waste, lift creativity, save carbon and landfill and increase wellbeing.

Frequently asked questions

Is the space accessible?

Frome Town Hall is accessible - there is step-free access at the side of the building for wheeled users. There is an accessible toilet in the building. If you need to park, there are disabled parking bays in the car park behind the town hall, but parking is limited.

What sewing kit do you have that I can use?

We have basic kit including needles of various types, threads, darning wool, scissors, pins, and bits of fabric.

What do `I need to bring?

We have lots of things you can use from needles, threads, scissors, patching cloth! - but if you want anything specific - for example, you may want to match the colour of a thread, or darning wool, then please bring it. Millie Moon on Catherine Hill has a great selection of threads and fabrics.

How many items of clothing can I bring to mend?

It's best to just bring one item and focus on that. You're welcome to bring a couple of things but be prepared not to finish everything. But you will hopefully have the skills you need to carry on the mend at home!

Is there a contact for me to ask a question?

Yes - please email everyoneneedspockets@gmail.com for the attention of Jill

Do I need to have any skills already?

No! The best thing is to come along and learn. Stitching and mending things can be take time, but once you learn how to do some basic things, it can be easy and you learn new skills! People often tell us what a wonderful time they've had.

Who are the volunteers from Everyone Needs Pockets?

All the people supporting you are volunteers, and while they are skilled and talented, we cannot take responsibility for your mends and repairs.
