This practical workshop will introduce you to the art of professional networking, and how to use it to accelerate your plans.

About this Event

Who’s it for?

The workshop is aimed at anyone either new to networking, or looking to build their confidence in handling face to face interactions and making the most out of their contacts. Whether you’re:

  • Looking for an internship or graduate level job
  • Exploring self-employment, freelancing, starting your own business or
  • Looking to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders as a research student, you can benefit from this workshop.

How will it help you?

You’ll gain confidence in presenting yourself to new people and be able to start building a strategy to achieve results through networking. Networking will become part of your university life and this will enable you to start building your professional network that will support you through every stage of your career.

What will you be doing?

The workshop will be in two parts:

Part 1 - 45 min skills session

Includes:

  • Setting a strategy
  • Preparation
  • Face to face behaviour and etiquette
  • Spotting and creating opportunities
  • Following up and nurturing contacts through LinkedIn

Part 2 - 45 minute networking event + final open discussion

You’ll put into practice new techniques by networking with the rest of the group. It will be a relaxed and supportive environment, and you’ll be given scenarios to help you start purposeful conversations.

Workshop leader

Lucy is Managing Director of Norfolk Network, a community of like-minded business professionals. As the Network’s leader she takes pride in building a vibrant place where people can be inspired, learn and build quality business relationships.

Lucy has been a prominent networker in the local business community for the last 15 years. She is passionate about discovering, championing and connecting people, and also about inspiring and creating opportunities for the next generation of business leaders. She leads a successful student volunteering programme, which gives students access to Norfolk Network events, introductions to local businesses, one-on-one coaching and informal mentoring.
