See Me is Scotland’s national programme to end mental health stigma and discrimination. 
See Me is currently funded by the Scottish Government and is managed by the  Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) and Mental Health Foundation Scotland (MHF).

What is See Me in Work?

See Me in Work is a programme of supports for employers in Scotland that are committed to creating working environments inclusive of mental health, and free from stigma and discrimination. 
Employers can access advice, tools and support to improve the working lives of employees.

Why does Scottish Government fund this programme?

Accepted Answer

It is estimated that one in three people in Scotland experience mental health problems (Scottish Government), and that around two-thirds of those face stigma and discrimination; that’s over a million people in this country who are being treated unfairly when they’re struggling.

What does the research say?

Accepted Answer

According to latest research, years of stigma and discrimination have left 78% of people with experience of mental illness feeling ashamed and assuming that people in positions of power think the worst of them, including that they are dangerous and to blame for their conditions.

Question 5

What is the impact on employment and workplaces?

Accepted Answer

This has led to people withdrawing from applying for employment, discussing their mental health needs and experiences at work, asking for flexible work or reasonable adjustments, and resigning or leaving employment before they were ready.
