Event description
'How to Plan' with Dr Sabina Strachan of how2glu

About this event

In this session we’ll work through a practical and graphic glucard™ quick plan tool that will help you to capture key aspects to create an effective plan that will adapt to different scales of project from your PhD as a whole to fieldwork, writing up, dissemination or activities such as designing and delivering public engagement.

(Note: this session is a good follow on from the ‘time management mindset’ workshop).

Planning can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming, maybe because it involves ‘guesswork’, maybe you think you need to have a lot of answers before you can plan ‘properly’, or maybe it seems like a low priority compared to ‘getting on with the doing’? This workshop outlines the many benefits of ‘quick and dirty’ planning and takes you through a planning tool that will help you to break down planning into manageable steps and highlight the key things to capture and when to capture them.

Specifically, we’ll look at how and when to estimate, how to identify and test assumptions, and how and when to re-plan using quick and effective methods. Sabina will illustrate concepts, share her own experiences and demonstrate tools by sharing live visualisations.

This workshop is particularly effective if participants have attended 'Essential Project Manager' and/or 'Time Management Mindset.'

If you have any access requirements or need assistance attending this course, please email contact.nine@durham.ac.uk.
