About this event

We’re really excited to be able to offer you this one day workshop (9am to 4.30pm) on ‘How To Prepare Furniture For Painting’ for beginners, led by Ian Newman BA MA.

This workshop is set in the warm, friendly and picturesque surroundings of Stockbridge village, located in the heart of Test Valley.

Come learn a new skill, or enhance your existing skills. If you are thinking of starting to paint old furniture, you'll need to learn a few skills that will save you a lot of time, expense and frustration. As a member of a small group of no more than 8, you will receive one to one instruction for much of the time. The information and skills you will gain from this course are all about the processes you’ll need to do before you open the paint pot, to achieve best possible finish. Remember, it’s all about the preparation.

During this workshop, Ian will freely provide you with his knowledge and experience to teach you the skills on how to correctly prepare any old bin finds, tired and out dated furniture, ready for it to be transformed, refreshed, rejuvenated, revamped or modernised. Come and learn these skills while making new friends and contacts in a relaxed environment and leave with new skills, inspiration and confidence to undertake more complexed projects at home.

* You will need to bring a small ‘manageable’ piece of furniture that you'd like to prepare for its transformation into a desirable, elegant piece to enhance any home décor. Preferably one that is in need of love. For this workshop we love scrapes, dents, lifted veneer and cracks. Remember that this workshop is about preparing your piece of furniture, but not painting it. *
