We will guide you through how to structure a small business and write a workable business plan, along with basic accounting, including managing cash flow and effective forecasting. We will also cover funding and expanding revenue sources, with insider tips on how to approach Retail Buyers (plus the chance to speak directly to key high street buyers) and on licensing. Finally we’ll teach you how to negotiate like a pro so you are all set to go out and win those important deals.
The day features a programme of informative talks, workshops and Q&A sessions. Numbers are limited to 50 and there will be opportunities to chat to our experts and network with fellow guests throughout the day. Anna Rigby is Head of buying home accessories, gifts and seasonal at John Lewis, where she has been a highly respected buyer for 35 years. Anna has an innate understanding of what will make a successful product, and she will share her tips on how to approach retailers.
Natalie Reynolds is a former government advisor and the CEO of advantageSPRING, a leading negotiation training company. Natalie has trained hundreds of global companies how to get the best deal as well as providing negotiation support to the UN, she has appeared as a negotiation expert for the Guardian, the FT and the BBC and speaks around the world on how women particularly can be confident and commanding negotiators.
Johnny Martin FCA is an experienced Finance Director, otherwise known as ‘The Numbers Coach’ who now gives regular workshops and talks explaining business numbers and jargon. He is the author of ‘Understanding Your Business Finances’ and through his book and his workshops he has helped businesses from all sectors overcome their fear of finance.
Julie Dodsworth is an artist and designer who launched a successful business from the narrow boat, on which she still lives. Starting out designing for friends, she has gone on to win successful deals with global brands including Barbour and Dartington.
Susy Smith has been Editor-in-chief of CL for over 20 years, diversifying the brand and maintaining its position as the UK’s number one homes title.
