Course Overview

The use of periodontal plastic surgery to improve gingival architecture, harmony and aesthetics is an integral part of periodontal practice. This includes a variety of procedures designed specifically for management of clinical situations ranging from the correction of recession affecting a single tooth to the treatment of multiple recession defects. The surgical techniques involved will be discussed both from a historical perspective as well as the scientific foundation that they have been based upon. The use of periodontal plastic surgery in implant dentistry to achieve optimum soft tissue aesthetics is well established. These techniques will be discussed together with the biological processes involved in soft tissue healing and maintenance.

Biomimetic Implantology Concept (BIC)

Placing implants in the most favourable three-dimensional position in order to gain a long term stable and aesthetical outcome, often requires bone grafting procedures. The biomimetic implantology concept (BIC) is using autogenous bone grafts in a special biomimetical way, to imitate the natural structure of the bone, benefiting from the enhanced healing capacity of the technique, making it the most predictable technique available until today.

The course will give the participants a clear overview of the complete range of this concept. It will show in detail, minimal invasive autogenous grafts, which can be applied straight away in the everyday practice, to advanced complex 3D-grafting procedures with tunnelling technique. Combining the technique with a predictable 3D guided implant placement approach should round up the lecture making the prosthodontist excited about restoring these cases.

This course will include presentations of completed cases, including clinical videos and a short insight into the biological explanations for the success of these technique. At the end participants will have an Interactive hands-on experience to apply the techniques learned.

Aims and objectives Soft Tissue

1. Criteria for case selection.

2. Wound healing following free gingival graft procedures.

3. Flap design.

4. Overview of different augmentation techniques.

5. Soft tissue management around dental implants.

Aims and Objectives : Hard Tissue

To present the participants with a predictable grafting technique, bases on biological principles, being able to treat almost every case

Outcomes:

The participants will be able to recognize features that help with case selection and factors influencing success.

How to gain a long term stable and aesthetical outcome for successful implant treatment.

A clear understanding of the various soft tissue augmentation procedures and their application when correcting recession defects. In addition the participants will gain a thorough understanding of the use of soft tissue augmentation procedures in implant dentistry.

Obtain clear guidelines which bone grafting technique to use to achieve the most predictable outcome when it comes to treating complex cases.
