How to run a community workshop for Craft Makers
Event Information
Description
Interested in running a community workshop, but you need some guidance? Craft Scotland invites you to join us for a free half-day continuous professional development (CPD) training workshop.
Makers, have you ever wanted to run a community workshop or take part in a longer-term local engagement project? This Craft Scotland training workshop will provide you and introduction to the necessary skills, approaches and experience to work with hard-to-reach audiences.
This workshop will cover the basics of working with younger people and older people. Plus, you will learn about working with those living with dementia, mental health or additional support needs. It will guide you through engaging them in projects, how to encourage learning through making, and showcase the breadth and depth of contemporary Scottish craft.
You will hear from Kirsten Wood, Learning Officer at Historic Environment Scotland and ceramicist Frances Priest, Project Lead at The Living Memory Association about their exciting Outreach & Engagement projects they have ran in partnership with Craft Scotland. By looking at their case studies, you will hear first-hand how organisations organise their programmes, select makers and how they achieve results for their community.
You will also hear from jeweller Laura Murray, who is experienced in working with targeted groups as part of a community project with Historic Environment Scotland and National Museums Scotland.
This event will give you the opportunity to meet and share knowledge with fellow makers and community project specialists.
You will gain an understanding of:
-
How to devise and lead community projects from concept to delivery
-
What the legal framework is around working with hard-to-reach audiences. Including a list of useful contacts for PVG disclosure and insurance etc.
-
How to calculate your rates of pay and expenses.
Who can attend?
All craft makers, emerging through to established ones.
