Event description

Description

This is a free workshop is aimed at volunteers, community workers and creatives connected in some way to North Manchester - who have an idea for turning their creative skill into an event or workshop for the public.

A bit about this Workshop:

This workshop will introduce you to some of the things you'll need to think about if considering running a creative event or workshop.

The workshop will introduce the following topics:

  • How to teach your creative skill
  • Event planning & preparation
  • Promoting your event
  • Delivery and evaluation

This workshop will be most helpful if you have a practical idea that you would like to work through on the day. You are under no obligation to deliver any events, but we will give you some information about the Library as a possible venue for delivering your free creative events.

This workshop is led by Michelle Ayavoro from Her Art CIC. HerArt was set up to use art and crafts as a tool to improve wellbeing, self-esteem, provide purpose and meaning, develop creativity and enhance quality of life. HerArt is a training centre able to deliver accredited qualifications in creative practice.

A BIT ABOUT MICHELLE:

Michelle is a textile and community artist. Her approach enables participants to explore a wide range of materials and techniques such as screen print, block print, mixed media and stitch.

Michelle has founded two social enterprises. She was a founding member of the Creative Hands Foundation, a group of multi-ethnic artists providing contemporary and traditional art and craft workshops celebrating different cultures and helping to build and sustain positive relationships. She now runs Her Art CIC, a social enterprise using creativity to nurture the confidence, skills and wellbeing of women facing long term health problems. Michelle has been delivering creative events, workshops, training and mentoring for over 8 years.

A bit about the #McrCreativeSpaces initiative:

In 2018, three Manchester Libraries will become Creative Spaces for their communities. Local residents will enjoy great art, create vibrant cultural activities, and access more of what our amazing city has to offer!

Early next year, Platform Mcr will help to develop skills, networks and inclusivity in the three areas through a programme of free training sessions open to community workers, volunteers and creatives.

We will be supporting on some exciting cultural events in the new year, including bringing the fantastic Illuminate, from the world-renown dance company Company Chameleon, into the Creative Spaces.

We will be hosting THIS VIBRANT THING. in March 2018 in each of our three Creative Spaces. It will be a multi-arts spectacular, celebrating the vibrancy of creativity and community, and will shift people’s perceptions of what Libraries can do. It's not just about books anymore!

We will also be running a series of community arts projects in the three areas, working with community organisations - empowering through art and widening participation.

We believe in the power of art. Arts activities empower community members to help shape their city. Sharing culture and creativity helps us to get to know ourselves and each other better, building stronger communities.
