Event description

Description

Many might think that dog walking is an easy job, but when done properly it is far from that!

Some throw themselves into the profession without much preparation for the role, while others may struggle to have the confidence to practically apply what they have learned in a way that generates a good income whilst keeping the dogs safe.
Dog walking is an unregulated profession and as professionals it is paramount that we do the best by the dog's and their owners, but we need to earn a living too!
This seminar covers all bases. Dog welfare focused, but delving into the business side of things too.

Our seminar will be focused on the following topics:

- Professional Appearence, Etiquette and Conduct
(Uniform, sign writing, liability, transportation, online presence/social media, how to converse with clients, advertising, terms & conditions, fitting in with your dog professional community, What makes a good dog walker?)

-Logistics
(transport, pick ups, drops offs, equipment, rotas)
**practical demonstration of dog transport introductions**

-Dog Body Language Presentation (essential for all dog walkers)

-Group walks
(how many dogs, which dogs together, where to walk, how to go about it, how to manage dog intros)
**practical demonstrations of intros**

-Dog Play Presentation (knowing what is and isn't play, essential for multi dog walks)

-Solo Dog Walks
(making it fun for you and the dog, knowing what to do with certain problem behaviours, accepting when a dog's problem behaviour is out or your reach, walking dogs with physical ailments)

-Puppies
(knowing about appropriate levels of exercise, training, activities, and length/timing of visits/walks)

-Home Visits
(cats & other small furries)

-Problem Behaviour/Training
(What training is appropriate and within your skillset and how to tackle common problems such as pulling on the leash, barking, jumping up, snatching for treats, recall)

-First Aid Course
(practical learning of canine first aid taught by a guest veterinary professional)

-Trouble shooting
(What to do if/when it goes wrong!)

This is going to be an information packed seminar that aims to improve the quality and knowlege of existing dog walkers or aid those who are starting out in the field.

Dogs are welcome at the event location, but they will need to wait in the car/van during the talks (bring appropriate car cooling blankets/covers if the weather is likely to be warm) and we advise that these are dogs who are happy in the car/van and also comfortable around people and other dogs.
There is a safe place for them to be exercised.
Please let us know if you are bringing a dog as we may use them as part of our practical demonstrations if they're suitable.
