Selecting Ligature Resistant Curtain Rail Systems: What Really Works in Practice

Curtain rails remain one of the most common ligature points in mental health facilities. Yet many healthcare facilities discover their systems fail to operate as expected only when it's too late - often due to incorrect installation, incompatible components, or misunderstanding what "ligature-resistant" actually means.

This webinar cuts through the noise and focuses on what genuinely works in practice.

What You'll Learn

The Critical Mistakes when selecting and installing ligature -resistant curtain rail systems:

  • Specification errors that undermine safety features
  • Installation failures that prevent systems from operating as designed
  • Material and component incompatibility issues
  • Testing and maintenance oversights
  • Design misunderstandings that compromise safety and usability

Practical Guidance:

  • How to evaluate curtain rail systems based on actual performance—not marketing claims
  • Track strength, suspension design and glider compatibility requirements
  • Low-weight release system specifications and how they work
  • Installation protocols that ensure reliable performance
  • Annual testing and maintenance frameworks
  • Questions to ask suppliers that reveal genuine safety performance

Meet Your Hosts:

Anthony Crumpton – Sales Director, ALS Ligature-Resistant Products

Anthony serves as Sales Director at ALS Ligature-Resistant Products, where he applies extensive first-hand experience gained from working as Head of Safety and Security for a large mental health NHS Trust. His current role as Director of Environmental Risk and Sales enables him to channel knowledge gained in research, advanced investigations and clinical risk management directly into practical solutions for healthcare facilities. Anthony holds a NEBOSH qualification and regularly shares expertise on anti-ligature product selection and installation through educational content and presentations.

Dr Franz James – PhD, Founder, Healsafe Interiör

Dr Franz James is a Doctor of Philosophy in Design from the University of Gothenburg and founding partner of Healsafe Interiör, a Swedish design company specialising in risk-reducing and suicide-resistant interior products. His doctoral research, "Sketch and Talk – Drawing Lines Between Humans, the Interior, and Stuff," developed innovative design methodologies for wellbeing in prisons, forensic psychiatric hospitals and special residential youth homes. Franz's research involved meeting patients and clients in their own rooms, sitting on the floor whilst sketching to create equal footing during conversations about their lived experiences of the physical environment. He argues that "you cannot design environments for involuntary care solely based on a brief. You have to be on-site, and you need to 'borrow' people's lived experiences". Franz is also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Gothenburg and leads research projects on the impact of physical environments in healthcare settings.

Both speakers bring first-hand experience from challenging mental health settings, directly informing product design and innovation. You'll hear practical insights from people who understand both the technical requirements and real-world complexities of creating genuinely safer environments.

Who Should Attend?
