Learn how to see through misleading environmental claims when shopping fashion

About this event

This online event is part of the Fashion for Climate movement and hosted by sustainable fashion brand VILDNIS.

Consumer interest in more sustainable fashion is growing rapidly thanks to increased awareness of the environmental issues surrounding fashion production. As brands follow consumer demand, this has resulted in fashion brands scrambling around to latch onto this major trend.

Some of the major conventional fashion brands appear to be making genuine attempts to become more sustainable. Understandably that they are unable to change their practises overnight and the important thing is that they are open & honest about it while making genuine attempts.

Sadly, this is far from always the case and a lot of the brands – especially fast-fashion brands – end up doing greenwashing instead, essentially misleading their customers.

And not only that, there is also a real risk that their greenwashing will contribute to an erosion of consumer trust in genuinely sustainable/eco-friendly/ethical brands

We are in the middle of a climate emergency and need to pull out all stops against climate change; both as consumers and as businesses . One of those stops is that we need consumers to start choosing products that are better for the planet and people. An erosion in consumer trust will have the opposite effect.

By the end of this event, you will know how to distinguish greenwashed products from genuinely eco-friendlier products.

The event starts with a 20-30 minute talk by the Founder of VILDNIS, Ulla Vitting Richards, and finishes with a short Q&A. Everyone can sign up and join for free.
