Event description

Description

Genomics is proliferated with commercial opportunities, new ideas and innovative technologies waiting to be licensed and developed into a world-class cutting edge product. More and more, a solid entrepreneurial skillset will come in just as useful as a dab hand in the laboratory.

Join us for a stimulating discussion with startup founders in the field of Genomics - we will explore how to build and launch a startup in this field and what has to be done differently to help them succeed in a highly regulated market.

Come armed with your questions!

Moderator

Ashutosh Trehan - EPOC President and Postdoc at LMB

Panelists

Patrick Short - Co-founder/CEO of Sano Genetics. Sano connects people with research projects in personalised medicine, and provides them full ownership over their data. Prior to starting Sano, Patrick completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge and the Wellcome Sanger Institute working with Dr. Matt Hurles on the role of non-coding genetic variation in rare disorders.

Dr. Abel Ureta-Vidal - Chief Product Officer at Eagle Genomics. Eagle Genomics innovates at the intersection of biology, data sciences and bioinformatics to develop enterprise platform solutions for the microbiomics and genomics era. After his PhD, he joined Genoscope (Evry, France) in ramping up the human genome project, putting in place the automatic gene annotation system for human chromosome 14. In 2001, he moved to the European Bioinformatics Institute (Cambridge, UK) where he led the Ensembl comparative genomics team until 2007. Abel founded Eagle Genomics shortly before graduating from the Cambridge Judge Business School MBA program in 2008.

Rob Greenwood - CEO and President of SciBite. SciBite exists to develop technology to unlock previously inaccessible data and knowledge from life science texts. Rob brings over 20 years’ technology and leadership experience to SciBite with much of that focused around the life sciences market. Rob has held a number of senior roles within Thomson Reuters, leading to the Global Leadership of the Life Sciences sales team across EMEA, NA & APAC and prior to joining SciBite, was General Manager for BIOVIA (Accelrys) for EMEA. Experienced in leading and growing businesses from start-up stage to multinational, with a focus on people, culture and customer engagement.

Hana Janebdar - ofounder/CEO of Juno Bio. Juno Bio, an Illumina and EF backed startup, was borne out of our founding scientific team's shock at just what little attention has been paid to the vaginal microbiome and its massive implications for women’s health and fertility. Juno Bio works to decode the vaginal microbiome and accelerate 21st century solutions for 21st century women. Hana's background is in biochemical engineering from Imperial and UCL and prior to forming Juno Bio, worked as a scientist on methods for microbiome optimisation.

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

To help with transport, you can pre-book a seat on a special shuttle bus that The Wellcome Genome Campus are putting on to make getting to and from the Campus easier. The coach service we use is Richmond’s - the coach will pick you up at the top of Hills Road (opposite the Flying Pig pub) at 17:45 and leave the campus at 20:55 to deliver you back to the same place. Seat is on a first come, first served basis.

A seat on the bus can be booked with registration, so have an extra beer and leave the car at home.
