Workshop 10.00am-2.00pm followed by optional surgeries from 2.00pm to 4.00pm
Arts Council England is the development organisation for English regional museums. At a challenging time for funding in the sector, the focus of our approach for 2015-18 is on building a more resilient museums sector.
The Museum resilience fund aims to support a step change for the museums sector by enabling museums to become more sustainable and resilient businesses. The programme complements Arts Council England’s investment in Major partner museums, the Museum development fund and national programmes. It focuses on gaps (geographical or otherwise) or development opportunities across the sector, recognising that excellence and the potential for excellence can be found in museums of all sizes.
Competition for the fund is intense, with the 2014 round heavily oversubscribed. So if your organisation or partnership is considering applying for the fund, it’s important that you know what a good application looks like and how you can go about developing one.
At this interactive workshop, expert Mary Godwin, Arts Council England’s Relationship Manager Museums (South West) will provide guidance on how you can develop a good application, one which clearly demonstrates the impact that the investment will make, shows evidence of need; and demonstrates robust support from stakeholders.
By taking part in the workshop you will:
- Appreciate the goals Arts Council England aims to achieve through the Museum resilience fund.
- Understand the different types of museum project that the Museum resilience fund covers
- Understand how applications are reviewed and assessed
- Find out what evidence Arts Council England expect to see backing up a good application
- Get tips on how to involve key stakeholders in developing your application
- Understand the type of costs that can be included in an application
- Learn how to word your application to get your key messages across
The event is designed for organisations that have already developed ideas for a 2015 Museum resilience fund, you’ll need to bring notes of your ideas with you and share them with the group as part of the workshop. You will be working in groups to talk about your ideas, matching them to the priorities for the fund and how applications are assessed, identifying strengths and weaknesses.
The group workshop will last from 10.00am to 2.00pm including a working lunch, followed by the opportunity of a surgery with Mary, also attended by Hampshire Solent Museum Development Officer Lucy Marder to help ensure joined-up support for your project. One surgery slot per proposed application, these will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis in time slots from 2.00pm to 4.00pm.
Taking part in the workshop won’t guarantee that your bid will be successful – but it help you to give it your best shot.
