About this event

Health • Mental health

Every year, Talk Money Week is delivered by the Money and Pensions Service to encourage everyone to open up about money. The theme of 'Talk Money Week' 2025 is 'Start the Conversation', recognising that honest, supportive conversations about money can improve wellbeing, strengthen relationships, and break down stigma.

At the Leeds Mindful Employer Network we know that money worries and mental health are deeply connected — and employers are in a unique position to make a difference. Often the first step to improving financial wellbeing comes with simply starting that conversation.

Why Talk Money at work?

Financial worries are affecting millions of people across the UK.

Not only are people finding it difficult to save and cover basic living expenses, but research also shows that more and more adults in the UK are struggling with financial literacy and money management.

Money worries don’t just switch off when people go to work– they follow people throughout their working day, affecting focus, productivity, and overall wellbeing.

Employees with money worries are more likely to feel distracted, overwhelmed, or even take time off due to mental health or stress-related illnesses.

Supporting financial wellbeing at work isn’t just good for employees, it’s good for business: it improves engagement, reduces stress-related absence, and helps create a healthier, more resilient workforce.

What our webinar will cover

Louis Zarins-Brown, Director of Operations at MoneyBuddies will explore how to spot the signs that money worries are affecting someone's mental health and how organisations can support financial wellbeing across all income levels, normalise money conversations, and empower managers to check in with confidence. He’ll also highlight the support available through the Money Buddies service, both for employers and for individuals.

Trish Cassidy from Stop Loan Sharks, England will explain how employees may have borrowed from an illegal money lender, also known as loan sharks. She will share red flags to identify if someone has borrowed, and will talk about what employers can do to help staff get confidential support.

Returning to work after a period of unemployment or receiving benefits can bring financial anxiety that’s often invisible but deeply felt. Ethan Foster, Service Manager - Economic Inclusion at Leeds Mind, will raise awareness of this challenge and explore practical ways employers can support new starters — from empathetic onboarding conversations to inclusive organisational policies. Let’s make financial wellbeing part of the welcome.

Jenny Wright from MoneyHelper will explain how supporting the financial wellbeing of your workforce can make a positive impact. She will share some key resources, discuss ‘moments that matter’ when you can #StartTheConversation and #TalkMoney and show you how to signpost to free, impartial money guidance and information with confidence.

The event will close with a Q and A.
