How to Use Shared Session Notes to Increase Client Agency and Recovery
Overview
Can you imagine sharing your sessions notes with client?
Can you imagine the client using these notes to drive therapy forward and increase the influence they have over their lives?
This workshop draws on ideas from Narrative Therapy as developed by Michael White and David Epston. I will share clinical examples that demonstrate the power of working in this way. I will share the understandings and tools that will allow you to start writing and sharing notes that have a really positive impact on peoples lives.
Hafiz, said " the words we speak become the house we live in." I believe that carefully written and shared notes become opportunities to change that house into a kinder space.
For over 20 years I have been sharing clinical notes with clients and I have refined the process. I have learned how to do it in a way that allows clients to flourish and take back control of their lives.
The majority of this work has been done with people who have complex trauma histories and some of this work with clients has been published. I have presented this work at conferences around the world.
You will learn how session notes can be used to reflect back the words clients use to capture their world and understanding of it. This process helps clients be curious and notice their own self talk and words in a different way. A way that encourages their agency and helps them think about the skills they need to use to move towards their preferred story of self.
I will also demonstrate how helping a client notice their agency and skills helps them get unstuck.
