Reasons to attend

This session is being delivered in partnership with Grant Thornton to give you the knowledge on how to ensure compliance with GDPR and avoid the penalties. We will highlight what companies can do now in preparation of the new legislation; what types of cascade effects there will be on operations and businesses; the impact of the privacy shield; and further discussion on what Brexit means for the GDPR.

About the GDPR

The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into effect in 2018 and replaces the Privacy Directive, and has left many businesses searching to understand its impact and new compliance environment. GDPR supersedes the EU Data Protection Directive and creates a uniform standard for data protection in the EU, expanding the jurisdictional reach of EU data protection laws, and allowing for hefty fines for certain GDPR violations.

According to the Information Commissioner's Office:

Once implemented in the EU, the GDPR will be relevant for many organisations – most obviously those operating internationally. The other main reason is that the GDPR has several new features – for example breach notification and data portability.

With so many businesses and services operating across borders, international consistency around data protection laws and rights is crucial both to businesses and organisations, and to consumers and citizens.
