CIPD Northern Ireland Branch are delighted to invite you to attend an engaging event focusing on HR Best Practice on Tuesday 26th January. Dr Martin McCracken from the University of Ulster will present his research findings around the HR Business Partner model. Martin will be joined by Gordon Parkes, HR Director, NIE who will provide insight into a practitioner perspective of HR best practice.
Lynn Carson, Vice Chair will then lead a 20 minute upgrading briefing session covering the following topics:

- Practical stages - hints and tips
Martin McCracken is a Lecturer in Organisational Behaviour at the University of Ulster, N. Ireland. He is involved in delivering a number of modules to students across the Ulster Business School, mainly in the areas of Human Resource Development, Change Management, Leadership and Research Methodology. His research is focused mainly upon understanding the factors that influence "managerial participation and effective transfer of learning from development and training interventions" and "Strategic Human Resource Development". Dr McCracken also has research interests in the fields of "Human Resource Management Restructuring", "Employee Diversity", "Public Sector Change" and "Team effectiveness", and is Editor of Education and Training. He has published a number of academic papers and policy reports on skills development and employability issues, and has played a key role in carrying out UK research projects commissioned by (amongst others): the Department for Education and Employment; Sector Skills Development Agency and Leonardo Da Vinci Research Programme (EU).
Gordon Parkes has worked in HR within the private sector for over 35 years. He has been HR Director of Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) for the past 14 years while within that period also being General Manager ,Group HR, of the Viridian Group.
Previously he was Group HR Director of Adria Limited, Head of HR with Norbrook Laboratories, and HR Director of Tyrone Crystal Limited. He has also spent 5 years as a Management Consultant.
Currently he is a member of the CBI Employment and Skills Committee and is a Board Member of the Labour Relations Agency. He has also recently been appointed by the Minister for Employment & Learning to Expert panels involved in developing a Careers Strategy for NI, Reviewing Apprenticeships, Youth Employment and Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering Services.
He holds an MBA and is a Chartered Fellow CIPD.
