This HR Essential Skills introductory course is designed to give you an overview of the core HR and management skills you need.

About this event

Emma Fay from HR Dept will be hosting this insightful training session in partnership with Gemma Rolstone from Delphinium.

This session will help employers and people managers to understand the basics of the following topics, which form part of our Management Essentials series of workshops which we’ll be running as a full suite of courses from 16th September 2021. Whilst this course will give you a good understanding of the essentials, it will also enable you to identify any topics on which you would benefit from a more in depth session.

By the end of the session you will understand your key responsibilities as a manager, both from legal and good practice perspectives. As an attendee of this introductory session, you will be eligible for a special offer should you subsequently decide to book onto any of our more in depth half day sessions on any of the topics.

You will receive an overview of the following topics, which will subsequently be run as more in depth workshops on the dates shown:

HR Administration (16 September) – why is good HR admin important, what does it involve and how can you can improve yours?

Recruitment (21 October) – key considerations when thinking about recruiting into your business, top tips to ensure you get recruitment right

Communicating with Confidence (18 November) – the importance of communication as a skill, the impact of body language and some tips for communicating more confidently

Diversity and inclusion (20 January 2022) – Key points you need to know about the law, and how a diverse and inclusive business can stand out

Effective Team Leadership (17 February 2022) – consideration of some fundamentals of leadership including delegation and motivation, and what makes a good leader

Managing Performance (17 March 2022) – What is performance management and how can doing it well improve your bottom line aswell as avoid conflict later down the line?

Discipline and Grievance (21 April 2022) – the fundamentals of a fair disciplinary and grievance procedure, including what a good investigation should include.

Managing Conflict (19 May 2022) – The three R’s of conflict management, and top tips on handling difficult conversations

Managing Absence (16th June 2022) – How to know when absence is a problem to be managed, and top tips on what good absence management policies and procedures should include.
