Description

Following on from our very popular HR Essentials in the last Branch programme, we will be revisiting our company – Happy Holidays – and continuing to advise them on some key employment issues.

Those members who have attended previous Essentials events will know that we have helped Happy Holidays to manage performance effectively, develop their grievance and disciplinary practices, and developed their negotiation skills to support their growth and need for a more sophisticated approach to managing their employee relations. Unfortunately, following this rapid business growth, changes in the travel and tourism industry mean that the Company has no choice but to consider restructuring its business, and possibly making some team members redundant.

This session builds upon the legal framework around redundancy covered by the Branch Event at Weightmans LLP on 28 October and takes us step by step through the practicalities and good practice around this difficult employee area. Please note, whilst this follows on from previous HR Essentials events, and links to the Redundancy Event in October, it is not necessary for you have attended any of these linked sessions. A recap will be given of any key details which are needed to take the session forward.

About our Speakers

Harry Allen is a Chartered Member of CIPD. Having spend more than 10 years in HR within the hospitality and retail, he has now moved into Higher Education as a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Department of Strategy Management and Marketing at BCU.

Patricia Colden is a Fellow of the CIPD and a freelance HR Consultant (trading as Colden HR Ltd). With more than 16 years’ professional experience, Patricia provides HR support and training to organisations in a range of business sectors with a special interest in education and not for profit business.

Harry and Patricia are both familiar faces at Birmingham’s events as they are both active volunteer members of the Birmingham Branch team.

What are the timings for this event?

Please arrive at 18:00 for registration, networking and light refreshments. The session will run from 18:30 to 20:30.

What are the car parking arrangements?

Directions to the Curzon Building can be found on the Birmingham City University website. There is a multi-storey car park at Millenium Point or a pay and display on Curzon Street.

What is the refund policy?

This event is free for CIPD members to attend. The non-member delegate fee is £15, places can be cancelled up to 1 week before the event after the fee is non-refundable
