The Motoring News Rally Championship started back in 1961 with the Yorkshire Rally and finally came to an end with the JJ Brown in 1987. During the 27 years of the Championship it was the training ground for many aspiring drivers and navigators who then went on to become well known works drivers and co-drivers. During the 60’s it was the major British championship to compete in with entries from many of the works teams. It was not unusual for events to run a full night of road rallying of +200 miles to then be followed by daylight stages.
We are planning to put on an evening during which you will be able to meet and listen to some of the drivers and navigators from those 27 golden years of road rallying. The evening will be hosted by Howard Davies a well-known navigator and co-driver who has sat with the likes of Gwyndaf Evans.
The evening will open with Graham Robson and Rob Lyall giving the audience an insight into how the Championship began in 1961 and the early years. This will be followed by Howard Davies talking to some of the well known drivers and navigators who took part in the championship including Don Barrow, John Bloxham, Bill Gwynne, Nigel Raeburn, David Kirkham, Bob Bean, Roger Moran, Richard Harper, Peter Watts & Peter Vaughan.
It will be an all ticket event limited to 200 places with tickets at £12.50 each (excluding a meal) & £17.50 each (including a meal). The meal will be a home made meat pie, veg & chips or a Vegetarian Option.Meals will be available from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm and 7.00pm to 8.00 pm (approx timings) PLEASE NOTE ONLY PRE-PAID MEALS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON THE NIGHT.
