Gemma co-founded Synergy, a multi-award-winning employee engagement and employer brand agency, in 2006 with a clear mission: to unleash the power of people at work.

Over 17 years, the business grew from a dining room table to the boardroom, before being acquired by one of the “big six” global creative advertising networks — the $2.9bn company Interpublic Group (IPG). The acquisition process put the business through its paces, and Gemma led it through four years of integration as Managing Director, focusing on global growth, before stepping down in 2024.

Gemma has 29 years’ experience working with HR teams globally on culture, EVP, and employee engagement for major brands including NatWest, ODEON Cinemas, British Airways, Heathrow Airport, the NHS, and Vodafone — helping to improve the employee experience from hire to retire through creativity, communication, and involvement.

More recently, she has launched a new venture, The Assembled, which focuses on improving people experiences through creativity and communication. She also lectures on entrepreneurship and mentors early-stage founders through the NatWest Start-Up Accelerator programme in the UK.
