Workshop: Human Enhancement, The Future of Technology and Technology of the Future
With Dr. José Cordeiro and Rohit Talwar
How are advances in science and technology driving the possibility of human enhancement and augmentation?
How far could human capabilities be extended?
What are the societal implications of widespread adoption of enhancement techniques?
This workshop introduces the concept of human enhancement and explores a range of the underlying science and technology advances that are driving it and reshaping literally every business sector.
Change is change is accelerating – driven in part by rapid advances in science and technology. Some technologies are driving radical changes to humanity in general and to human beings in particular. Many experts now talk about the four sciences and technologies of the future: NBIC (Nano-Bio-Info-Cogno). Furthermore, the NBIC fields are converging at an accelerating rate and they will help to transcend many human limitations in order to improve human lives all around the world, and beyond our tiny planet.
Humanity is fast approaching what some people call the "Singularity": the moment when artificial intelligence will reach human intelligence levels, and then quickly overtake it. Perhaps then some humans might become ‘transhumans’ and ‘posthumans’, changing forever life on Earth and the universe.
In this fast paced, highly interactive one day workshop, global futurists Dr. José Cordeiro and Rohit Talwar will introduce the concept of human enhancement, explain the underlying science and technology developments and examine their implications for individuals, society, government and business. Key topics to be explored will include:
- Welcome to the Future: Exploring the Potential of Innovation and Technological Convergence
- An Introduction to Human Enhancement
- Nanotechnology and Biotechnology (Hardware of Life)
- Infotechnology and Cognitive Science (Software of Life)
- Energy and Environmental Systems (Earth and Space)
- Science and Technology Scenarios (Possible and Probable Futures to 2025)
- The Emergence of Global Futures Intelligence Systems (Platforms for Technology Forecasting and Environmental Scanning)
The workshop fee includes a light breakfast, morning and afternoon refreshments and a light lunch.
