Event description

Description

ScotlandArt Gallery is pleased to present their upcoming exhibition "Human". A celebration of figurative work from some of ScotlandArt's leading contemporary artists. The exhibition brings together a variety of styles and subjects. With new work from Angela Reilly, Clare Morton, Ashley Cook, Fiona Wilson, and others, this exhibition promises to be an exciting review of contemporary figurative art in Scotland.

Angela Reilly is an established Glasgow based painter who concentrates mainly on depicting the female form. Her work has an intriguing quality of offering on one hand, clarity, and on the other, hidden depth in the expressions of her subjects and ambiguity of context. She works solely in oil which grounds her exploration into perspective and composure in a rich background of traditional art history.

A new face at ScotlandArt Gallery, Clare Morton studied Fine Art at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen, and has gone on to exhibit internationally. Clare's work is an exciting and fresh look at the figurative genre, with each portrait oozing personality and narrative, in the artists own distinct monochrome style. Clare draws much of her inspiration from fashion magazines, and street style photography which is clearly recognizable in the graphic, playful nature of fabrics portrayed and in the ‘realistic’ and visually stunning features of her subjects.

Ashley Cook’s work is narrative and emotionally driven; focusing on the human form, with the titles resonating with the imagery. Ashley works with a mixture of found images and her own autographic and photographic images; an eclectic library of personal and archetypal iconography that she reuses, redevelops and manipulates continuously. Her intense and varied colour palette creates a dreamlike and nocturnal aura in her work. She is attracted to printmaking and the authority of print, which produces an image that has gone through technical and mechanical processes as well as having a connection to the hand of the artist.

While Fiona Wilson is very known throughout the UK for her visually striking female portraits, her additions to ‘Human’ are less obviously in the figurative style. Instead, she has chosen to depict flower still life subjects, but includes references to the female body through abstract additions and geometric patterns in the decorative vases and other contexts.

We invite you and your friends to attend the late night opening of 'Human' at 193 Bath Street on Thursday 26th April. Come along between 6-8pm, where you can enjoy complimentary drinks and nibbles while you see the spectacular work on show. ‘Human’ will run until the end of May 2018.
