Event description

Description

KCL Genetics Society & KCL Pakistan Society are proud to present this talk by the Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at KCL, Professor Richard Trembath.

In East London, South Asian people have some of the highest rates of heart disease, diabetes, and poor health in the UK. East London Genes & Health is one of the world’s largest community-based genetics studies, aiming to improve health among people of Pakistani and Bangladeshi heritage in East London by analysing the genes and health of 100,000 local people.

Professor Trembath set up the study after it was staggeringly revealed that the average life expectancy in East London decreases by a year for every stop travelled east on the District line. In this talk, he will discuss the project, as well as the potential roles of genome sequencing in modern and future society.

Entry is free, but please register for a free ticket. There will be the opportunity after the talk to provide a saliva sample at a stall in order to further the East London Genes & Health project.
