Event description

Description

The Human Library is an international movement that provides a framework and guidance for communities and community organisations to create a positive environment and space to have conversations to challenge discrimination and prejudice and broaden people’s views and understanding of difference. The Human Library asks volunteers who have experienced discrimination and/or prejudice to become ‘books’, allowing people to ‘read’ them by asking them about their experiences.

A Human Library event helps facilitate understand between different people through a ‘library’ themed event that facilitates dialogue and social contact, allowing people to ‘borrow’ and ‘read’ human books through having a 10-20 minute open conversation.

Through open and respectful dialogue, the book and the reader get to know each other over FREE tea and cake…

This enables people to broaden their understanding of human experiences and develop an insight into communities and lifestyles that they may not have come into contact with before.
