DHEZ Academic Seminar Series 2019

The Digital Health Enterprise Zone (DHEZ) Seminar Series showcases innovations in digital health and provides a forum for academics, healthcare professionals and business to network and learn about public engagement in healthcare and pathways to implementation of digital health solutions and new models of care.

We are delighted to have Professor Oliver Lemon deliver one of our 2019 DHEZ seminars: Human-machine interation.

Professor Lemon is Director of the Interaction Lab in MACS (Mathematics & Computer Science) and joined Heriot-Watt in October 2009. He was previously a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh (2003–2009), and a Senior Project Engineer at the Center for the Study of Language and Information (CSLI) at Stanford University (2000–2002). He holds a PhD from the Centre for Cognitive Science, Edinburgh University, for work in logic and formal semantics (1996), and a BSc in Mathematics and Philosophy from Manchester University. Oliver was Scientific Coordinator of the EC IST project TALK and Coordinator for the EC FP7 CLASSiC project on machine learning for human-machine interaction. He was also PI of the ESRC/EPSRC Technology Enhanced Learning project "ECHOES2" and site leader of 4 recent EC FP7 projects. He started 2 new EPSRC projects in 2015, and a Horizon 2020 project on socially intelligent robots in 2016 (MuMMER project).

Professor Lemon's research involves Artificial Intelligence techniques related to novel human-computer interfaces and Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) -- in particular natural language processing and the use of machine learning methods for optimisation. His recent research focuses on reinforcement learning in spoken dialogue systems, user-adaptive natural language generation, technology-enhanced learning, and Human-Robot Interaction . He has published over 100 peer-reviewed research papers in these areas.

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Details of how to find the university and car parks can be found via this link: https://www.bradford.ac.uk/contact/#d.en.7925

‌Our car parking policy requires permits for the motor vehicles of all staff, students and visitors who park in University car parks during the period of 9.00am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. DHEZ visitors requiring parking will need to contact the event organisers so that this may be arranged. DHEZ Academic visitor parking bays are located near the DHEZ Academic building and can be found in Longside Lane Car Park (p1 on map).

All visitors must have a valid Parking Permit within 15 minutes of parking. We have only a limited number of parking permits so please feel free use any public parking available locally if you prefer (https://www.bradford.gov.uk/transport-and-travel/parking/car-parks-in-bradford/)
