About this Event

This is the nineth annual Human Rights Lecture and this year our speaker is Martyn Day, a British solicitor specializing in international, environmental and product liability claims.

Britain and Human Rights: We Talk the Talk but do we Walk the Walk?’

Britain has been at the forefront of the development of human rights from the Magna Carta to the Human Rights Act and British Multi Nationals have been at the forefront of developing CSR policies for their subsidiaries operating around the world. Despite all of that how are we actually when it comes to human rights? The fact that the International Criminal Court is investigating the role of the British Army in Iraq following the 2003 War does not speak well of our country as does not the time after time when our companies have been found to have left their decency in this country rather than apply our standards to foreign situations.

All and more to be explored.

There will be an end of lecture collection for Amnesty International.

Speaker Biography

Martyn Day is the Founding and Senior Partner of Leigh Day, a firm of solicitors based in London. Martyn heads a team of 12 Solicitors within the International claims department, bringing human rights and environmental claims on behalf of people from the developing world against British multi-national corporations and the British Government. He is a Director of the Greenpeace Environmental Trust and in April 2014 the University of Warwick awarded Martyn an honorary doctorate in law.
