Event description

Description

Thought provoking LGBTQ speakers Jeremy Pemberton and Flo Krause.

Jeremy Pemberton was the first serving priest to marry his same-sex partner, Laurence. Refused a license by the Church of England, as punishment, this resulted in him being unable to take up an NHS chaplaincy role. He has taken a discrimination case against the Church, which now heads to a Court of Appeal hearing in 2018.

Jeremy will talk about his fight against discrimination, the effect it has had on his life and faith and the path ahead for those in the Church of England striving for equality.

One of the leading practitioners for prison law, Barrister Flo Krause's work, acting for prisoners such as Dennis Nilsen and Ronnie Biggs is legendary.

Flo achieved the overturning of the ban on prisoners' rights to vote; fought for the right for prisoners' wives to have artificial insemination, putting human rights a the center of her challenges - victories at the highest level.

Dissillusioned by cuts in legal aid, affecting accessible justice for the deprives and vulnerable, Flo felt she was fighting a losing battle against a cruel, unjust system and decided to hang up her wig. She now runs Waterside Gym in Hebden Bride.

There will be an opportunity for Q&A with both speakers.
