Event description
An intensive event designed to enable you to start thinking about the kinds of knowledge and skills that you will develop as a student.

About this Event

N.B. Please choose ONE of the two dates to attend: Wednesday 30th Oct (Dalhousie LT1) or Wednesday 6th Nov (Dalhousie LT2) , from 2-5 pm.

Humanities in Action is an intensive event designed to enable you to start thinking about the kinds of knowledge and skills that you will develop as an undergraduate student, and how you can apply them to different situations at University and beyond.

Humanities students develop valuable skills and ways of thinking which can be applied in a variety of contexts. Recent graduates, for example, have gone on to build careers in diverse sectors including advertising, development aid and the third sector, event organising, management, consultancy, teaching, student representation and politics. Regardless of the path you follow, you will need more than a good degree. You will also need to operate in rapidly changing social and economic environments. To succeed and to lead in this world, you must acquire detailed discipline knowledge, but also develop the ability to negotiate your way through territory where conventional knowledge boundaries quickly alter. An education for a globalising world challenges you to think flexibly across disciplines, to note what they value, and to challenge what they do not question.

Whatever subjects you are studying, and whatever you plan to specialise in, we believe it is important to take time throughout your degree pathway to experience some of the different contexts in which your knowledge and skills are relevant - and think about how to make the most of them. This is what Humanities in Action is all about.

The programme will involve working in a team on a fun, fast-paced, and interactive case study, supported by Humanities staff.
