New Shoes Theatre presents
Translated by SHARON WOOD
Directed by NICOLETTE KAY
Wednesday 5th March 2014 at 2.15 p.m.
(Blanche Marvin – London Theatrereview)
The powerful hour-long play is inspired by real testimonies from Amnesty International to spark a global debate about
violence against women and girls.
“He grabs me by the hair, drags me into the kitchen, throws me on the floor. He hits me while I am on my knees. It doesn’t matter how much I scream, beg or cry, all I get is kicks”
The play is written to stimulate an hour-long discussion between the audience and a panel of local fieldworkers and experts in the field of domestic abuse. We are currently touring the play in the lead up to International Women’s Day (8th March 2014).
“You cannot help but feel sadness at the stories, and that makes you want to go out and do something.”

Dacia Maraini, is a renowned award winning Italian playwright, novelist, poet and journalist, who has spent her career addressing women’s issues. She was nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature and shortlisted for the International Man Booker Prize.
The director, Nicolette Kay’s credits include Dacia Maraini’s ‘Mary Stuart’ at Battersea Arts Centre “Nicolette Kay directs the often exhilarating proceedings…a production of character” The Guardian; and ‘Love Child’ by Joanna Murray-Smith at the Finborough Theatre “Two fine performances in Nicolette Kay's gripping but measured production." Evening Standard.
“...the actors, three women and two men stood behind music stands, but this was to make the drama even more powerful. And power it was. It left one numb.”
(Keith Parkins – UKINDYMEDIA)
We will have a collection for the local women’s refuge.
SCHOOLS PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PLAY CONTAINS STRONG LANGUAGE AND GRAPHIC DESCRIPTIONS
