This section of footpath leading into Doles Wood is steep and slippery during winter months. The North Access team plan to install steps and a handrail on this section of footpath to aid people using it.

The job: We will install steps where appropriate. The area in question is surrounded by mature trees so we appreciate that the roots will dictate where the steps are to go. A handrail will be installed along the length of the hill so people have a safe and secure hand-hold from top to bottom.

We plan to have one member of staff leading a group of 3 volunteers (3 groups in total) on one of the following jobs:

- One group to concentrate on the handrail

- One group to start at the top of the hill with steps

- One group to start at the bottom of the hill with steps

Directions: Please meet me in the local community centre carpark, and we will make the short walk to the location from there. The map below explains where we are parking and where the task is taking place - the highlighted area is the community centre carpark. The red line represents where we walk to get to the base of the hill.

What to bring:

- Your own work gloves

- We will have tea/coffee and biscuits, however please do bring your own lunch and refreshments.

- We will bring a selection of tools so no need to bring anything from home

- High viz would be recommended so we can be seen by other footpath users (i can bring spares if needed)

Extra information:

- The meet time for the task will be 10:00 at the stated location. Finish time approx. 15:00 (we may finish earlier than this depending on numbers).

- There is no on site toilet

- Face masks are not mandatory however feel free to wear one if preferred

- Three members of HCC staff will be present for this task - Gemma, Mitch & Abi

- All three of us are first aiders

- Please wear sturdy footwear and bare in mind if the weather has been raining on the run up to the task it will be muddy

- Please bear in mind the temperature on the day - bring sun cream, plenty of drink, and suitable clothing.

Finally please note: if you or a member of your household has been unwell within 14 days prior to the task with a continuous cough, high temperature, change to taste and/or smell, please do not attend the task and inform me if you are not coming.
