Event description

Description

Overview

The first part of this course focuses on the impacts of urbanisation on catchment runoff response and briefly looks at the policy and guidance relevant to planning for and managing flood risk from urban areas. The second part of the course introduces some of the methods available to estimate greenfield and development runoff rates and volumes, focusing on the standard techniques recommended in The SuDS Manual with worked examples. The course aims to provide an understanding of changes in hydrological processes due to urbanisation and an introduction to flow estimation methods that can be used within the initial stages of the planning process.

Who should attend

Those who are involved in the initial stages of planning for
development, and those who may be required to review
initial planning applications, with regard to flood risk and
drainage. No prior knowledge of hydrology is assumed.
