Description

The London District Branch of Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists will be running a 1-day Hypermobility Study Day on Sunday 15th April 2018 from 9.30-4.30pm. This will be held in Park Crescent Conference Centre, Central London

The event will be facilitated by Sophie Roberts, Musckuloskeletal Podiatrist at the Gait Lab and Dr Jane Simmonds, Specialist Musculoskeletal and Exercise Rehabilitation Physiotherapist.

Sophie has a wealth of experience in the podiatric management of biomechanical, sports, rheumatological and neurological foot disorders. She lectures regularly on the world stage in podiatric biomechanics, gait analysis and orthotic management, and has a special interest in Hypermobility. Her MSc thesis was presented at the FIP World Congress of Podiatry in 2010. She also alongside world experts in other disciplines of sports medicine in the Athlete’s village at the London 2012 Olympic games.

Jane combines her work in the Hypermobility Unit at the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth with her work at University College London within the Institute of Child Health. Jane is a specialist musculoskeletal and exercise rehabilitation physiotherapist with over 25 years of clinical experience. As a committed educator and active researcher she regularly publishes research and clinical papers. Additionally Jane presents at conferences and contributes to CPD education and training in hypermobility and connective tissue disorders. She is also a medical advisor to Ehlers-Danlos Support UK and the Hypermobility Syndrome Patient Association (HMSA).

The cost of the course is £85 for SCP members and £120 for non-SCP members and will include attendance certificate, lunch and refreshments and course learning materials.

Itinerary for the course is as follows:

9.30am Opening

9.35am Hypermobility and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders - an overview with new classifications and research for management - Jane Simmonds

10.30am Podiatry and Hypermobility – Sophie Roberts

11.15am Coffee

11.45: Management of Hypermobility – 30 mins Jane and 30 mins Sophie

12:45pm lunch

1.45pm : Practical concurrent – Jane Simmonds Beighton and the 5 part questionnaire. Also some of the Functional tests.

2:30: Break

2.45 : Practical Concurrent – biomechanical assessment, gait analysis, Lower limb assessment scale

3:30pm 4 Rapid Fire 10 min case report presentations with 5 min questions/discussion – 2 presentations Sophie and 2 presentations Jane

4:30pm close

Learning outcomes :

- To understand the new classifications and research for management

- To identify common foot disorders with Hypermobility

- To understand Physiotherapy and Podiatry management strategies for Hypermobility

- To carry out biomechanical assessment, gait analysis and lower limb assessment scale for hypermobile patients

- To understand the care path ways for Hypermobile patients through case reports demonstration.
