Hysteria is what happens when emotion goes stratospheric. When you can’t control your excitement, your fear, your passion. When the beating hearts of a million teenage girls are collectively rushing in One Direction. When Elvis used to twist his hips, and Paul and John stood on the stage.
And it isn’t always easy. Hysteria can be dark, unwieldy, dangerous. It will incite crowds and start raging fires.
Poets know a thing or two about the human heart, the frenzied mind. They see us in all our wild unruly states, and aren’t afraid to pin us down.
This event is free and open to everybody. Guests are invited to read their favorite poems or poems they have written themselves, exploring the theme, or to simply come along and listen.
The Drop-In will be hosted by the poets Alan Price and Louise Warren
