I Am the Pen in Your Hands: The Master-Apprenticeship Relationship in Ottoman Calligraphy
Bilal Badat is undertaking a doctoral degree at the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts and is a student of master calligrapher Efdaluddin Kiliç. His lecture will provide an insight into the unique master- apprenticeship relationship that continues to exist today in the study and practice of Islamic calligraphy in Turkey. He will share his research on some of the technical and spiritual processes involved in the transmission of calligraphy over time and how this can contribute to our understanding of aesthetics in the Ottoman tradition.
There will also be an opportunity for questions and answers. Doors open at 6pm for 6.30pm start.
Ticket prices are being sold at a discounted rate of £7.00 up until the 9th of July, at which point they will cost the standard price of £9.00.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
The quickest route is to catch the First Great Western train either from Paddington Station (20mins approx.) or from Ealing Broadway (10 mins approx.) to West Drayton train staion. We are just a few miuntes walk away and are off the High Street along the Great Union Canal. There are 2 free car spaces at venue but these will be reserved for disabled visitors. Pay and display is available on Bentinck Road and is free after 6.30pm.
