Can't come to Preston on the Friday 9th December? Please buy a ticket and select "Can't Go" as your pick-up location! Can't afford to come? Let us know and we'll give you someone else's space. We need to send the biggest possible statement of solidarity that we can, and show the courts that Tina doesn't stand alone!
On 9th December, Tina Rothery will become the first UK Fracking Prisoner of Conscience.
She is refusing to pay £55,000 in costs to a bailiff company that claims to have evicted her (amongst others) from a field she had already left the day before. The field in question was earmarked to become a Cuadrilla fracking site, and the three week occupation ended on time and with a thorough clean up of the site. Tina is very clear that, quite aside from the fact she doesn't have this money, she will refuse to pay as this would legitimise the intimidation of peaceful protesters.
This is no longer just about fracking - it is an attack on our human rights!
The protest will start a short distance from the court, where we will gather at 10.30am before marching with Tina to the court. Tina has two appointments in the court building. The first will be her final chance to comply with the order to pay the money. For the second, she will appear before a judge who is expected to send her to HM Styal Women's Prison for two weeks, to be released on 23rd December. We will keep up the protest outside the court until that process has finished.
