Ken Loach's 'I, Daniel Blake' Film Screening, Foodbank Collection and Panel Discussion.
Daniel Blake has worked as a joiner most of his life in Newcastle. Now, for the first time ever, he needs help from the State. He crosses paths with a single mother Katie and her two young children, Daisy and Dylan. Katie’s only chance to escape a one-roomed homeless hostel in London has been to accept a flat in a city she doesn’t know, some 300 miles away. Daniel and Katie find themselves in no-man’s land, caught on the barbed wire of welfare bureaucracy as played out against the rhetoric of ‘striver and skiver’ in modern day Britain. * We will do collection for Bedford Foodbank before I, Daniel Blake film screening 19 January 17. If you can support our foodbank, items that they are in need of are coffee, long life sponge, jam, toilet rolls, shampoo, unisex deodorant and washing tablets for clothes. They currently have an abundance of pasta, beans and cereal.
* This is a great opportunity for local communities to come together and raise awareness of the Government’s brutal sanctions regime, and call on the Chancellor to stop the cruel Employment Support Allowance (ESA) cuts.
