In-person Workshop

A one-day workshop designed specifically for African and Caribbean heritage students at the University of Leeds. Delivered by external coaching organisation Grit: Breakthrough Programmes, in partnership with the University of Leeds and I SEE MYSELF.

Date/Time: Tuesday 13th May, 10am-4pm

Location: Fairbairn House Suite A Rm 4 and 5 (G.04)

To attend, please make yourself available for the whole duration of the day. Lunch is provided. Students who complete the programme will receive a certificate and a £15 voucher.

Workshop Details

This is a real opportunity for you to connect with other Black students in a safe space, to discuss your university experience and harness your collective energy to navigate and create success during your studies and beyond.

At Grit, our starting point with each individual is your strengths and talents, your passions and interests, your ‘assets’. We focus on what it takes for each individual to achieve and thrive, and to become the best they possibly can. We break the cycles of ‘deficit’ thinking, the assumptions that there is something wrong, the focus on what is lacking or missing, the reasons ‘why not’.

Delivered by our highly skilled Black trainers, this workshop can provide you with a safe space to:

Explore and celebrate your identity, talents and skills
Connect to your community of Black students with similar lived experiences, and amplify feelings of belonging and connection
Reflect on your current challenges, and explore new approaches to overcome them
Increase levels of confidence
Build supportive mechanisms which can be sustained during and beyond your university experience
Develop leadership and advocacy skills

If you would like to find out more about the opportunity, Kim, a trainer from the workshop, will be hosting Zoom information sessions on 30th April & 1st May: 12.15pm-1.15pm or 1.30pm-2.30pm.
