Sun 7th Sep - 7PM
This event has kindly been sponsored by St Columba's School
At this special Gryffe Valley Book Festival event, John Davidson will share the extraordinary true story that inspired his book - and the upcoming film set for release in October. In a raw and honest conversation, John and Abbie will explore the life experiences that shaped I Swear, from childhood adversity to personal resilience, shedding light on the challenges, truths, and moments of hope that define his journey.
Aged sixteen, John was the subject of a BBC documentary, John’s Not Mad, about living with Tourette’s syndrome, and he has since been an ambassador for the condition, giving talks and workshops in schools and to the police, and running residential camps for young people with Tourette’s. Since 1989 he has featured in several follow-up documentaries; Kirk Jones’s 2025 film I Swear, out this October is based on John’s life.
In 2019 John joined the board of Tourette Scotland and was awarded an MBE in recognition of ‘his efforts to increase understanding of the condition and helping families deal with it across the country’. He has also gained international recognition for his online support for families all over the world.
This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from a voice that refuses to be silenced - offering insight, inspiration, and a deeper understanding of a story that’s already touching hearts across the UK.
The event will include an audience Q&A, offering you the chance to engage directly with John and Abbie. I Swear will be available to purchase following the event, when you'll have the opportunity to meet both speakers and get your copy signed.
