I wish I’d had this earlier… Developing the Leadership Skills of Doctors in...
Event Information
Description
For trainers and tutors “leadership training” poses this challenge – engaging trainees in an area that they may perceive as irrelevant in early training yet is experienced as a hurried “add on” on nearing completion.
Yorkshire and the Humber is hosting a day to explore this challenge. We would like to share current thinking and benefit from your experience.

Context: Clinical Leadership is a key priority in the NHS
In the report Leadership Development for Doctors in Postgraduate Medical Training the Secretary of State for Health asked the GMC and HEE to “examine how clinical leadership can be incorporated as a core component of all specialty training”
As a result of this request both Health Education England and the GMC are exploring the design and delivery of such training.
This will be an interactive day where participants will benefit from
-
Exploring the clinicians need for leadership training
-
Sharing methods of delivery and good practice
-
Signposting existing opportunities and scope for further development.
-
Modules of leadership training activities to take away.
-
Identifying opportunities within schools and localities to develop this work
The day will be delivered by Edmund Cross and Brian Lawson both of whom have a longstanding history of delivering leadership training within the region with consistently excellent feedback.
The event is being hosted by Health Education England in collaboration with the Leadership Academy.
All educators in the region will find this day useful including (but not exclusively) Heads of School, Training Programme Directors, Clinical and Educational Supervisors.
