About this event

This year is the 250th anniversary of the birth of the novelist Jane Austen, so what better excuse than to follow in her footsteps around Ian’s beloved City of Bath (and with some important sites elsewhere into the bargain).

Arguably the first feminist writer, Jane’s works are nowadays somewhat misunderstood, despite their popularity, as television and film producers go for a surfeit of bonnets and photogenic stars, missing out the (many) nuances of her works.

And there’s beautiful Bath to look at into the bargain…….and you can enjoy it all from the comfort of home for, as Jane Said in Emma, “There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort”!

You might like to read Persuasion or Northanger Abbey beforehand, too. As not only are they fabulous books; they also have many important scenes inspired by and set in Bath.
