Description

Fourth bibulous year!

Ian Nairn, the great London writer, architectural polemicist and toper, born 24 August 1930.
We celebrate his life, but in particular we celebrate his book Nairn's London, published in 1966, by visiting some of the pubs featured therein. On our route, we take turns to read excerpts from the book.
Our pilgrimage begins at the wonderful Blackfriar (sometimes 'Black Friar') pub next to Blackfriars Station and head west, taking in the Wellington, Strand, the Salisbury near Leicester Square, the Red Lion, St James's (Duke of York Street). We finish at the St George's Tavern near Victoria Station. This was Nairn's local, where he spent much of his final years. It is our only stop not featured in the book.
