The IEYC Journey at Nehru World School and Healthy Planet Schools

The first Healthy Planet School started in 2008 as the early years centre at the decades old Nehru World School, Ghaziabad, established in 1978. For over ten years the Healthy Planet team grappled with creating curriculum that would be engaging, relevant and contextually appropriate. In 2019, the school adopted the International Early Years Curriculum for children in three year groups from 2+, 3+ and 4+.

With direction from our research and development wing called The Learning Lab, we devised ‘The Healthy Planet Way’ to implement the IEYC seamlessly across curricular areas of each year group. We based our approach on Harvard’s research on brain development which helped us design our classroom experiences with IEYC serving as the central background. The IEYC’s open ended inquiry and flexibility to integrate all learning areas has helped us elevate our classroom experiences.

The IEYC’s units, themes and activities opened our world to new possibilities and chimed with the IEYC’s mantra, ‘aimed at improving’. We experienced it to be the right blend of structure and flexibility for our contextual needs. With the newly launched Healthy Planet TGA Early Years School in Noida, we have reimagined our physical spaces to provide different settings for the IEYC experiences to extend from knowledge towards skills and understanding. This is a new chapter of research-led quality education with IEYC at the heart of the transformative learning experiences.
