Event Details

The Community Ambassador Programme presents the iCAN: Tackling Domestic Abuse and Sexual Exploitation in Our Communities Discovery Evening on Thursday 21st May 2015 between 6:00pm – 8:30pm at Empress State Building, London.

Violence, sexual exploitation and domestic abuse is not someone else’s problem – it’s everyone’s problem. Too many victims have had their lives ruined, families torn apart or been murdered because they were unaware of their rights or did not report the abuse. With a 23 per cent increase in the recording of domestic abuse and a 28 per cent increase in the reporting of sexual violence, we need to raise awareness that any incident of violence or abuse is everyone’s problem as opposed to believing that it remains behind “someone else’s” closed door.

Why Attend?

This is a great opportunity to hear first-hand about the work the MPS is doing to combat domestic abuse and sexual exploitation. In addition attendees will hear from Community Ambassadors who have been working in this area and how you can get involved with your “big idea”.

On the night we will:

  • Raise awareness, understanding and recognition of different types of abuse and exploitation
  • Provide a better understanding of the cultural challenges around tackling abuse
  • Open the lines of communication between the community and those that seek to serve and support it
  • Solicit powerful solutions to beat a growing problem

The iCAN: Tackling Abuse in Our Communities Discovery Evening is open to all those interested in or affected by abuse or exploitation; practitioners working in the field; faith leaders; service providers and those looking to support the work of the Community Ambassador Programme through volunteering and their “big idea”

And there’s more.

There will be presentations from the MetBPA and S.A.M.U.R.A.I. (MPS - Staff Support Associations Forum) who will be sharing their own experience on what it takes to be a police officer.

You have to admit, this is an event not to be missed.

The iCAN Discovery Session provides you with in-depth information on what it takes to become a Community Ambassador, where volunteers act as advocates to improve the appeal of a career as a police officer.

In return for joining up, volunteers will receive ongoing training, mentoring and access to specialist departments to develop BIG IDEAS based on the unique ideas, talent, skills, knowledge and local networks of the Ambassador.

Sign up now to find out about the exciting support you will receive to unleash your innovation and creativity of ideas to better engage, collaborate and advocate around recruitment issues as the MPS strives to look and feel more like the London it serves.
