G-Tech Youth Code cic in association with Stemettes invite girls ages 8-12 years old to attend a fun filled workshop that will introduce you to coding and computer sciences. You will have a great time with the team from Stemettes as you discover the exciting and amazing world of technology through creative and practical activities. So bring your imagination and youthful enthusiasm and have a fun day with tech on us. By the end of the day, we want you to be saying I. Can. Code!
After the coding workshop, the girls will visit the Sky Technology offices at Leeds Dock to observe coders in a work environment. Sky TV is one of the leading television broadcasters in the UK. On this tour, the girls will meet the tech teams that have developed some of Sky's award winning apps and digital products for broadcast television and the web.
Why are we doing this?
There are more men working in technology than women. We believe that technology is for women and girls too. The aim of the I.Can.Code. workshop is to breakdown the gender and other social barriers that prevent girls and young people from racial minority and lower socio-economic backgrounds to study computer science. We aim to build young people’s confidence and engagement with Science, Technology, Engineering; Mathematics (STEM) subjects.
