iCASP recognises that the erosion, transport and deposition of sediment and associated particulates (e.g., micro-plastics, fertilisers, invasive non-native species) impacts a wide range of catchment decision making across a variety of landscape types. Such issues include:

Soil erosion and the impact on water quality;
Deposition of sediment after a flood event;
Capacity of natural flood management interventions and;
Asset management of hard engineered flood structures etc.

Recent academic developments can help manage these impacts. For example source to sink analysis of pollutant flux, methodological updates (e.g., earth observation data) and laboratory advances which allows sediment, which is often omitted, to can be incorporated into catchment decision making process.

This co-design workshop aims to identify the most pressing catchment challenges related to sediment and associated particulates and the possible solutions needed. This half day online workshop will include talks on how sediment matters within catchments and recent advances related to sediment (e.g., using earth observation data). This will then be followed by some co-design exercises to inform potential iCASP projects.
