ICCM Conversations: Group Singing as Healthy Public
Event Information
About this Event
In this practical discussion, we will explore the idea of group singing as a resource for the development of a ‘healthy public’, with Dave Camlin, Helena Daffern and Katherine Zeserson, co-authors of a recent journal article in www.nature.com. We’ll be grappling with questions like:
• What is a ‘healthy public’ and why might group singing be a means of achieving it? If group singing is ‘good’, who is it good for?
• How can the stories people tell about their experiences contribute to a more scientific understanding of why group singing might underpin positive health and wellbeing?
• If music is about the ‘performance of relationships’, how can the conditions of ‘safe danger’ help us to experience music’s transformative power?
• What is ‘distributed ethnography’ and the Sensemaker® method, and how can it shape new directions in research into cultural experience?
